Bánh mì or bahn mi is the Vietnamese word for sandwich. It refers to the French baguette that is used. Bahn mi is a sandwich made with grilled pork, chicken or pate and often served by street vendors in Vietnam. In this recipe, we use grilled pork and it is actually called: Banh Mi Thịt Nuong.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Rice Oil
- 2 tbsp Sweet Soy Sauce (Ketjap Manis)
- 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 3 tbsp Fish Sauce
- 2 tbsp Brown Rice Vinegar
- 85 g Lemongrass Powder
1 kg Chops on the shoulder (boneless)
100 g Sugar
1.5 tbsp Black Pepper
150g Grated Carrot
150 g grated Daikon
4 Baguettes
3 tbsp Mayonnaise
1 bunch of Coriander
2 tbsp garlic puree
Preparation method for Bánh Mì
- Lightly pound the pork with a hammer or the back of the kitchen knife.
- Combine the lemongrass, sugar, fish sauce, black pepper, shallots, garlic, sesame oil, rice oil and sweet soy sauce in a bowl. Marinate the pork with the marinade for 2 hours or preferably overnight. Discard any excess marinade before grilling.
- Mix the rice vinegar with the grated carrot and daikon and let it stand for a while.
- Grill the pork in a grill pan on both sides until cooked through. Remove the pork from the pan.
- Spread the mayonnaise over the baguette and add a few slices of grilled pork. Put the carrots, daikon and cilantro leaves on top of the pork.
- Cut the baguette in half and serve.
